Workshop on "Impact assessment on OS in Transport Research" main outcomes
On April 14, the BE OPEN partners held a workshop gathering several transport experts in Europe looking at future implications of Open Science in Transport research.
Open data, Citizen Science, Open Source Software and Open Access where the subjects in focus, using the Future Wheel methodology to look into the effects of increased Open Science in transport.
Some of the preliminary findings are listed below:
- Saving cost in terms of reuse of data (Open data)
- Faster solutions to complex problems due to access to more research (Open Access)
- Citizens understanding scientific processes better and accept research results making it easier for policy-making implementation (Citizen Science)
- Higher availability of OSS resulting in better service for the end-user and hence improve efficacy (Open Source Software).
This analysis, which is currently being finalised, is an important part of the BE OPEN project as it will present the value of setting up a community of transport research organizations willing to work on the basis of the “European Code of Conduct on Open Science in Transport”. Thereof making transport science more efficient and more responsive to societal and economic expectations.
